Aren was born in Calgary, Alberta, and like most Canadians, started participating in both ice hockey and figure skating at age 5. When the family moved to College Station, Texas, he continued with his training as a competitive figure skater, traveling to Houston every morning for eight years. Aren skated in both singles and dance.
His coaches and mentors included Canadian Master Coach – Kevin Walsh, Olympic & Worlds Master Coach – Jose Picard, Canadian Ice Dancing Champion & Coach – Mark Janoshak, Choreographer & Coach – Tammy Janoschak, Latvian Champion – Kostja Constantine, and Olympic & Worlds Master Coach – Lorraine Borman.
Aren moved to Dallas to study at the University of Texas at Dallas. Aren graduated from UTD with double degrees, majoring in Arts & Technology and in Fine Arts.
Aren has been coaching figure skating and hockey for 21 years and has a strong sense for foundation and technique when it comes to teaching skating. He is very comfortable teaching all levels of skating and all ages. This includes Basic 1-6, Freeskate 1-6, Ice Dance, Hockey, and Pre-Preliminary to Senior for Moves in the Field and singles.
